Follow the procedure below for proper flute assembly:
1. Firmly hold the body of the flute in your right hand at the barrel. Be sure that you are not touching or squeezing any of the keys.
2. With your left hand, pick up the head joint and insert it into the body of the flute. Do not push it in too far; there must be about a quarter inch of the head joint showing which you can use for tuning.
3. Now, line up the lip-plate or embouchure hole with the keys.
4. Switch hand positions.
5. With your right hand, pick up the foot joint .
6. Now, twist the foot joint on to the end of the body of the flute. You must line up the foot joint so that the rod is centered with the tone holes of the body joint of the flute.
7. To disassemble your flute after playing, simply reverse the above procedure.
Flute Maintenance–Body
After playing your flute, wipe off the body with a chemically-treated polishing cloth to remove hand acid and foreign matter. This will keep the outer surface clean and prevent tarnish.
Flute Maintenance–Keys
The key mechanism is delicate and should be handled with care. Be sure to avoid bending the keys during assembly and disassembly. The keys should be lubricated at least every 6 months.
Flute Maintenance–Bore
After playing your flute, swab the inside to remove moisture. We recommend the Pad-Saver® swab for this purpose. This special swab removes the moisture from the pad surfaces as well as the bore.
Flute Maintenance–Pads
Flute pads should be cleaned weekly with “pad papers
“. These special papers will remove moisture and foreign matter from the pad’s surface to prolong the life of the pad. If a pad becomes torn or damaged, it should be replaced by a Roberson’s Music repair technician.
